John 20: 19-29

As we come toward the end of our series on the Gospel of John, today we will look back at some of our journey. As we recall the stories and teachings from these past three months, we will reflect on what we have been paying attention to and how our perception of Jesus has shifted.

John 18-19

For the start of Holy Week, today we will be doing a slow reading of Jesus’ journey to the cross in John 18 and 19. We begin with Jesus being arrested and conclude with Jesus hanging on the cross. We will alternate between reading scripture and short prayers as we reflect on the final moments before Jesus’ death

John 12: 36b – 43

As we continue in our series on Seeing and Unseeing in the Gospel of John, this week we are going to explore unseeing and unbelief. We are going to use the concepts from a 100-year-old science-fiction novella, Flatland, by Edwin A. Abbott to ponder what it means to see the world from an entirely new perspective, and why it can seem so difficult to “see” something that is right in front of us.

John 10:1-21

This week we are looking at two of the “I am” statements from Jesus: I am the gate (10: 7, 9), and I am the Good Shepherd (10: 11, 14). These metaphors can help to give us ways to help us recognize and see Jesus more clearly in the world around us.

John 6: 1-13

This week we have two options for engaging with John 6 and the Feeding of the 5000. One option is a guided contemplative prayer exercise and the other is an imaginative play exercise. The content today is designed to be for all-ages, so there is no separate CapKids content guide. Pick the option that works best for your group.

John 4: 1-42

This week we are using another imaginative prayer exercise to encounter Jesus. As we go through the story of the Samaritan woman at the well, we will try to “see” Jesus as the woman “sees” Jesus and discover the living water which Jesus offers.

John 3:22-36

This week we take a slight detour from encountering Jesus, to encountering John the Baptist. We “see” someone who “sees” Jesus clearly. What can we learn from John’s approach to discipleship for how we are called to be disciples of Jesus?

During our first small church gathering for our new series Seeing and Unseeing in John’s Gospel we will take some time to encounter Jesus. In John 1: 35-51 disciples “come and see” a Rabbi from Nazareth. We will use an Ignatian Prayer of the Senses to explore these encounters and remember our own encounters with Jesus.
